A GPS for Building Wealth

De'Andre Salter's book 7 Wealth Building Secrets is just that--a book that shares the author's secrets--to educate, encourage and exhort readers about money. Salter, a pastor and successful entrepreneur, makes it clear the book is not about a prosperity principle but a principle of life. Key to financial success is a recognition that the power for wealth is from God and is for the purpose of expanding His kingdom here on earth. The author develops his 7 Secrets by using examples from individuals in the Bible and people the author knows personally. These principles are thoroughly grounded in Scripture and yet are applicable to anyone, believer as well as non-believer, any age and any socio-economic background.
Several things that stood out to me in this book are as follows:
We need to recognize that even though God is in the blessing business, success is not a given, it is a result of hard work (it rarely happens overnight nor at a 9-5 JOB), and requires living within your means and sowing seed into your future. It is imperative to have more than one income stream, to be knowledgeable, to have successful mentors and investors. Being able to assess your own abilities, knowing the skills and abilities that God has given you and understanding the 'marketplace' are also keys to building wealth. Salter continues with a reminder not to lay up treasures here on earth but to know that as we "give into the kingdom and have a heart that God blesses with power to attain wealth, your treasure is protected." (pg 123) The author also gives instruction on how to weather financial crises, i.e., pruning, quitting, getting rid of stuff, and things to avoid, such as doubt and fear, selfish greed and disobedience.
7 Wealth Building Secrets is a practical guide to change one's thinking about wealth and how to understand the impact of wealth on the kingdom of God. It brings encouragement and hope to those who may be struggling and it gives a clear instruction on how to come to a place in life where God's blessings are a reality.

Thought Provoking

I will admit that I was a bit skeptical when first starting this book. What I did not want was a book giving me advice on how to get rich quick or a name it and claim it philosophy. Thankfully, this book was not about any of those. Author Mr. Salter really gave me some very interesting things to ponder. Though I may not agree 100% with this book a lot of what he pointed out really gave me some food for thought. For example, the subject of inheritance and how important it is to God. I have actually thought about this issue before and how sad that it was that it seems that in our current culture inheritance is a lost gift. As the author points out, inheritance was very big in Biblical times especially in the Jewish culture. The earth was an inheritance to Adam and Eve and they were to act as good stewards over creation. The same can be said with our money. As he points out in the parable that Jesus told about the servants, we must be trustworthy in the small things and not bury it in the ground like the unworthy servant did. What he did have was taken from him and given to the one who wisely used his master’s gifts. We also cannot expect to just have the wealth and keep it to ourselves for our own selfish pleasure. No, we must use our money and other gifts to further the kingdom of God. I personally do not believe that poverty is what God wants for His children. There was so much more in this book and I encourage you to pick it up and read it yourself. I received a copy for an honest review from The Book Club Network, Inc. and the opinions are my own.

Obtain wealth to build God's kingdom

Salter claims at the beginning of his book, “You're about to discover what it means to have financial peace.” (7) That is a pretty big claim. Does he deliver?

Salter says financial peace isn't about more money, but his book is about wealth – in the form of money. He himself worked his way to the top ranks of the insurance industry and launched a successful entrepreneurial insurance brokerage firm. He is also a pastor with theological training and he says his success is because of his application of biblical principles.

I do appreciate that Salter emphasizes the inner character of a person. A person must be whole on the inside and have a strong moral and ethical foundation, he says, before money can be managed properly.

He gleans financial principles from biblical examples. I appreciated his teaching on impatience. Sometimes we must give up baubles (big house or flashy car) today for true wealth later. He even suggests “financial fasts,” seasons of downsizing, spending less, etc.

The book is about building wealth. He is big on creating income streams, such as through entrepreneurship. He writes about finding a successful mentor and about using other people's money. God “has given us a power we can use to build personal kingdom wealth.” (61) He does associate wealth with kingdom building, saying that is why God will prosper someone. One must desire to further the kingdom and have a heart for God.

Salter writes, “God plans for His people to prosper – and is constantly placing us in a position to do so.” (72) In fact, “If we are not wealth building for kingdom building then we are missing an essential missional assignment of every believer.” (157) He suggests the kingdom building is to be through giving to the local church.

I am not so sure this book offers insight into financial peace. While he wrote that it was not about more money, it really sort of is. Salter concludes, “Christian poverty is not biblical.” (174) That suggests those who choose to live with low income with the purpose of serving others are somehow not following God's plan and can't have financial peace. Also, I am not sure we can apply the teaching in this book to Christians living under the oppression of ungodly leaders in undeveloped countries. I was disappointed that the concept of wealth seemed to be limited to money. Wealth was not associated with nonfinancial things like having a godly family or having godly friendships or serving in a selfless ministry.

If you want to get pumped up about wealth and the biblical principles to obtain it, this is the book for you. Salter does say, “True wealth requires discipline and making necessary sacrifices to reach one's goal.” (53) So you can't just name it and claim it. And you will be asked to make sure your desire for wealth is connected with God's desire to build His kingdom here on earth.

About the Author
Marcus Dods (11 April 1834 - 26 April 1909) was a Scottish divine and biblical scholar. He was a minister of the Free Church of Scotland (1843-1900). He was born at Belford, Northumberland, the youngest son of Rev. Marcus Dods, minister of the Scottish church of that town. He studied at Edinburgh Academy and Edinburgh University, graduating in 1854. Having studied theology for five years he was licensed in 1858, and in 1864 became minister of Renfield Free Church, Glasgow, where he worked for twenty-five years. In 1889 he was appointed professor of New Testament Exegesis in the New College, Edinburgh, of which he became principal on the death of Robert Rainy in 1907.

Absolutely beautiful!

I found this little book to be of such practical help as a supplement to my daily devotional reading and prayer time. It has many insights and observations based on four or five biblical stories that added so much to my understanding of God's love and how to better seek the presence of Christ in our daily lives. It appeared to be off-putting at first with its rather archaic wording, but as I read it, I found that to not be the case at all. It was very readable and still so timely today in its message. It is chock full of wonderful insights and reminders from a writer who had obviously spent a lifetime of reflection on scripture and on formulating ways to best share his reflections. A jewel of a book.

The book argues that studying Egypt’s intelligence community is integral to our understanding of that country’s modern history, regime stability and human rights record. Intelligence studies have been described as the ‘missing dimension’ of international relations. It is clear that intelligence agencies are pivotal to understanding the nature of many Arab regimes and their decision-making processes, and there is no published history of modern Egyptian intelligence in either a European language or in Arabic, though Egypt has the largest and arguably most effective intelligence community in the Arab world.

This book will fill a clear gap in the intelligence literature and will be of much interest to students of intelligence studies, Middle Eastern politics, international security and IR in general.

About the Author

Owen L. Sirrs is a faculty associate in the Defense Critical Language and Culture Program at the University of Montana where he specializes in the Middle East and Afghanistan. He previously served as senior intelligence officer on Iran for the US Defense Intelligence Agency.

Impressive and well-researched

Sirrs does an admirable job given the daunting nature of his task - writing a survey of the very secretive Egyptian intelligence community - and does better than might be expected. He makes great use of available material, mining declassified US and UK documents and Egyptian secondary sources. Of necessity this means that the story is told from outside, with much of its focus on Egyptian foreign intelligence. There is little insight into the internal structure, operations or personalities of the Egyptian intelligence agencies, how they work with each other and with other parts of government. Ideally, there could have been some more investigative reporting, interviews with Egyptian sources, and more journalistic legwork, but that is too much to expect from an academic work. Given the recent fall of the State Security Investigations Service, and the leak of many documents, perhaps these insights can now emerge, and will inspire enterprising historians and journalists. If so, this book will be a necessary foundation. Two minor complaints, both not the fault of the author, regarding the price and index. Hopefully a somewhat cheaper paperback edition will be available, as with Sirr's other excellent book on Nasser's missile program. The index is a bit frustrating (personal names starting with "al" are all alphabetized under A for example), and most, but not all, Egyptian organizations are alphabetized under "Egyptian."

This long overdue book provides a concise and accessible summary of a very relevent and current but nonetheless neglected topic. Drawing from a wide range of sources it addresses Egypts successes and failures in both domestic and foreign intelligence from the days of British occupation to the present and lays the foundation for an assessment of what may happen as Egypt nears the post-Mubarak era. Written in a straight forward style suitable for both the specialist and the general reader, this book is likely to be the definitive work on the Egyptian intelligence service for some time to come.

Comprehensive and Useful

I wanted this book to learn how to do two very discrete tasks in order to use the Internet in private. What I found it to be more comprehensive and far more reliable than information available online. The techniques in the book actually work. For me, one issue was not only whether something can be done, but what is the best way to do it. I thought it was incredibly useful to get objective and reliable reviews of options, techniques, and sites that sometimes charge fees. What surprised me the most, however, is all the tiny tips, tricks, and websites I didn't know about. There is a lot of information on issues I wasn't even thinking about but where reliable sources of information would be really useful. For example, recovering files I've accidently deleted or encrypting data.

This book is very thorough. It covers all the basics and continues on to more advanced security options such as VPNs. There are numerous software recommendations as well as the instructions on how to use the most important programs. This will be a real eye opener for the novice.

I would have given five stars, but the table of contents didn't work on my Kindle version.

Weddings revisited

`A Marcelli Wedding' contains two previously issued novels; `The Marcelli Bride' and `The Marcelli Princess', both stories are entertaining reading. The only exception was the unrealistic depiction of how the secret service guards a Presidential daughter, Darcy; allowing her to go to a lavatory in a store without checking it out first and standing outside the door and then at several other points left relatively unguarded. However, because of this she is kidnapped and then is hidden, after her release at the Marcelli family vineyards. We also have to overlook the fact that a safe Camp David or other government secure area would be used rather than a publicly visited vineyard...but then we need a story and a romance. The Marcelli clan is loud and boisterous and loving and romance develops, family relationships are healed and danger overcome.

The second novel is a bit more confusing with the family relationships and strangely, the president's daughter that has married into the family seems to be left out of almost every gathering and conclave of the sisters, and family even though she now lives on the family estate and they love, like and have supposedly welcomed her into the family.
Mia, the wild sister is now raising a son on the family vineyards, having seen his father die. But then he shows up on the scene as the heir to a small European throne and he wants his son. How can Mia keep her son, can she really find love again with a man who she thought was dead and someone outside the law, but who is in effect a prince? There are many problems to be worked out, to say the least.

These are two appealing stories. However the caution that all too often concerns these romance compilations applies...these are not new stories. `The Marcelli Bride ` was published in 2005 and `The Marcelli Princess' in 2007. This is not really made clear on the book cover, but if you have not read them or wish to again this book provides the opportunity.

two fine romantic suspense

"The Marcelli Bride". The four kidnappers wearing Halloween masks abduct the president's daughter Darcy Jensen. When they reach their van, their leader looks at Darcy in disgust and informs his thugs they snatched the wrong one as no one cares what happens to this loser. They unceremoniously leave her behind in the parking lot as they plan to grab Darcy's glamorous sister Lauren. The two siblings are sent to separate safe houses. After a harrowing overseas ops scenario, Lieutenant Commander Joe Larson and his men are happy to be back in the States. Joe is assigned to protect Darcy at the Marcelli Vineyards. He only recently learned that he is a Marcelli. Amidst the vineyards, Joe and Darcy fall in love, but first he must keep her safe.

"The Marcelli Princess". In California Mia Marcelli is used to sleeping alone ever since Diego died several years ago. When she awakens to find a man in her bed she threatens to harm him while her two grandmothers charge into the room. The intruder explains he is Rafael, Crown Prince of Calandria. He faked his death but hides the reason for his reappearance; as he has come to take home their offspring four year old Danny, second in line to the throne. He even pretends not knowing he sired a son with her when she was in Calandria. If he gets the kid back to his kingdom, Mia has no legal rights.

These reprints of two of the Marcelli saga combine humor with suspense. Both entries are filled with action from the onset and strong characters though Rafael will not be liked. This omnibus contains two fine romantic thrillers.

For open-minded over 18's only!

Joanne is a desperate housewife with an absent army husband and though financially secure she is most certainly not happy. Feeling overwhelmed and under appreciated a moments loss of concentration during the drive home from a weekend with the in-laws changes her life in ways she never imagined.

Dicey has hit on a very controversial subject here that could possibly offend some readers.........I on the other hand am not offended! But that's easy to say because the age of consent in the UK is sixteen so in my world the issues raised may be immoral but they are not illegal!

DG did a wonderful job in building Joanne's character, letting us get to know her as a Mother and a wife with high moral standards before we had to watch her very cringe worthy downfall to `paedophile'. It was quite disturbing to see because I had become so attached to her that it felt like I was witnessing a friend choose a path that could not end well but I was unable to prevent her from making the mistake. I understand why Dicey did this, and it worked...... if I hadn't connected with Joanne at the beginning it would have been easy to condemn her for what she was thinking about doing, but once I knew her it wasn't quite so black and white..........the waters were murky and I had to question if we have the right to generalise and judge!

This was an easy one to rate, no ifs and buts it gets 5 Stars and it's worthy of every one of them! I couldn't read fast enough to see what happened, its written in a style that suits my reading and the plot was unpredictable from beginning to end. Dicey Grenor has a very warped mind, she aims to shock in her work and shameful surprised the hell out of me! Oddly the most horrifying bit in the book that I found, was not the intimacy between our two MC's, it was a scene that involved Joanne's daughter Shimmer that finally had me dying ten thousand deaths and blushing even though I was alone when I read it, and if I'm honest had me feeling very uncomfortable! ( I will not explain further... no spoilers here!!!)

Love can be forbidden for many reasons and there will be opposing sides on every issue. Shameful is ultimately a romance concentrating on a relationship that is `forbidden' and I'm sure this fact alone will bring with it some negative comments and reviews. For me the book shocked me, surprised me, saddened me and made me smile. I found it such an emotional journey that I am moved by the book and that is what I look for when I read....Wow!

This was a very intriguing novel...indeed!!! You meet Joanne, a neglected military housewife, who's life revolves around her family and making them happy with little or no reciprocity. As you take a deeper look at Joanne, you can see how a woman with no sense of, pediphilia, in her nature, could succumb to such a thing. Joanne is basically a single mother, her husband provides for them financially, but, other than that, an absentee parent/husband. So, I applaud Joanne for holding on to her fidelity and not "stepping out" or divorcing her husband sooner! lol..I feel that this book has the potential to be very controversal, in the sense that some will be offended by some of Joanne's actions and decision in the novel. Oh yes, there will be a few heated conversations, but I feel, that this is what makes this novel such a great read!

Now, when you meet the other main character, Alex, a 16 year old adolescent, who appears to be wise beyond his years...you do have to remind yourself, that he is just a kid. As their two worlds collide, literally, you are slowly and painfully watching Joanne's demise, so to say, into the inevitable!!! On one hand, you can see how she gets caught up, but on the other hand...you are yelling at her to remove herself from the situation, not because you don't think that their feelings could be real..but, because of a little something called...Jail..lol...and the fact that he is still a kid! All I could think and kept saying to myself.."Nah, she's not going to do that, she seems to understand the consequences, and how absurd that would be, and...Oh no she didn't!!!" lol!!! I enjoyed this one very much, and look forward to more from this author.

Good read, thought provoking

Where do I start with "Shameful?" I do love taboo books, they give me an extra escape and really get my brain going so I was excited to start this book. It was a well written book and did a great job touching on a very Taboo subject without turning it into a dirty book about pedophilia. The relationship between Joanne and Alex starts innocently enough and you can see her trying hard to fight the feelings she may or may not be having but after being alone for months you can ALMOST see how it can happen. Her husband (Chad) is an ass and that was hard for me to read. He's a military man stationed abroad and as supporter of the military and a friend to many military personnel I know that most soldiers don't act like him when they leave for a tour, but some do.

The book was easy to read but I found myself having to continually put it down and walk away which is why I gave it 3.5 stars. My intrest was easily held long enough to finish but there were issues between Joanne and her children that were hard to read. As a mother who experienced serious Post-Partum depression, the way that she acted towards her children and some of the feelings she expressed were hard for me to read and brought up some very bad memories so my views may have been a bit skewed from the start on that issue.

The only other issue I had was the ending. The ending it's self was fulfilling but it happened almost too abruptly. One minute you're reading hot and heavy in a very dramatic scene and then Bam.... it was over. I personally didn't like how it ended....but again I'm going to chalk it up to my recent battle with PPD. I will keep this book on my kindle and will most likely re-read it in a year or so when my own personal issues aren't so fresh in my mind. I would easily recommend this book to anyone with an Open mind and a taste for books on the Taboo

EXCELLENT!

I can't say enough good things about MFW 1st grade!

I used it with my K and 1st grader last year and we loved the full bible based approach!

This is a very gentle curriculum and teacher friendly.

We loved the timeline and it gave my boys a real solid overview of the bible.

I didn't do MFW K. I would suggest going through "Teach your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons" the year before this. That book prepared my son for the reading he would have in this curriculum.

There is a lot of drawing, which my boys loved!

And again this is VERY teacher friendly!

I love, LOVE this curriculum BUT you can no longer ...

I love, LOVE this curriculum BUT you can no longer purchase any of the the Student Sheets or the Phonics workbook that this teacher's manual uses as they are no longer in print. The ONLY thing this is good for is to trade it in with the company for a fee of $45 plus shipping to upgrade to the 2nd edition TM which you can purchase the consumable student sheets and workbook.

I used MFW with my 7 yr old ever since Kindergarden. Now he is going to 2nd grade and we will continue using it. MFW 1st grade is a well designed curriculum that will take your child and you as a teacher to a wonderful Bible journey. The phonics work, math activities and science projects will be loved by your child. Brilliant work at a wonderful affordable prize.
